Atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries) is a condition in which a person has build-up of fat, cholesterol, and other substances in the walls of his arteries. Over the years, these substances build-up to form hardened spots called plaques, which can break off pieces of itself and clog arteries downstream from the broken plaque.
