Necrotizing enterocolitis
Necrotizing enterocolitis is a serious condition that occurs primarily in premature infants where the lining of the GI tract undergoes necrosis or tissue death. When the integrity of the gut wall is disrupted, bacteria can leak into the abdomen and cause life threatening infection.
